While it costs Missoula County a slight reduction in our quarter funds, we should support the bill because it's good for the public as a whole, and we ought not be rooting around for nickels and dimes at the expense of others that need them more. A good 911 system statewide benefits us all, and this is just our share of the cost to do that.
The Fed Relations, Energy and Telecommunications Committee hearing on HB22 was held today and the bill passed the Committee by a unanimous vote. Proponents included Montana Association of Counties; Montana Sheriff’s and Peace Officers; Richland County Economic Development Council; and Montana Independent Telecommunications Systems. There were no opponents. The bill should be scheduled for second reading in the House in the next couple days.
