Transfer board of crime control to corrections; eliminate some FTE's

Basically the bill is to transfer all of the duties of the Montana Board of Crime Control over to the Department of Corrections. Many of the grants that Missoula County Receives to include all of the Domestic Abuse Grants and West Central Drug Task Force, are pass though federal grants from MBCC. MBCC is the only recognized agency to receive these pass though grants right now.

I would recommend that we oppose this House Bill as it would not be good for the County or Sheriff's Office.

HB 230 proposes that the Montana Board of Crime Control ceases to be an independent state agency and instead move to the department of corrections. We have major concerns that this will impact their ability to support programs who work with victims of crime and negatively impact our funding through the grants we receive from them.

Missoula County opposes House Bill 230 - Transfer board of crime control to corrections, before Senate Finance and Claims on Monday morning. Our research indicates this change could disrupt the Federal grant revenue stream for up to one year thereby jeopardizing funding for a number of Missoula County grant programs and disrupting service delivery. Please oppose HB 230.
    Respectfully,
Dale Bickell on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners
