Rural Initiatives is studying this bill further but notes that MEIC offers the following: "SB 109 would allow hydroelectric power expansion projects to be accepted as a "renewable energy resource" under Montana's Renewable Energy Standard. Montana has ample hydro resources, and they are an important part of our energy portfolio. The Renewable Energy Standard, however, was designed to promote true renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar. This bill undermines the incentive for utilities to use clean, renewable energy." This bill does not directly/immediately impact MC in the sense of limiting hydrogeneration, but passage of this bill could indirectly limit incentives for other potential clean, renewable energy endeavors.
