Missoula County Superintendent of Schools Erin Lipkind supports SB 130 - Unemployment benefits for certain school employees between terms, and thanks Senator Wanzenried for carrying the bill. SB 130 is before the Senate Business, Labor, and Economic Affairs Committee this afternoon. Employees in a variety of occupations - government jobs, private sector, etc - are eligible for unemployment, even when they take a position that they know will result in seasonal layoffs, and school employees should have similar eligibility. It will help schools to maintain a consistent workforce of classified staff as many individuals do not return each year having necessarily sought and found year round employment. Unemployment benefits may be just enough to make it worthwhile to come back year after year, allowing for continuity in staffing and reducing the expense and difficulty of recruiting, hiring and training new staff. Please support SB 130. Respectfully, Dale Bickell on behalf of Missoula County Superintendent of Schools Erin Lipkind
