Message sent to senators Larsen and Hinkle on Senate Judiciary:
Missoula County opposes SB 238 - Increase jurisdictional limit for justice , city, and small claims courts, before the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow morning. SB 238 would greatly increase the caseload of Missoula County's two justice courts and significantly impact the level of service our Justices of the Peace and clerks could provide citizens. SB 238 would create an unfunded burden to an already overworked staff. We've had 427 new civil and small claims cases filed in our justice courts this year alone. SB 238 would also require more jury trials, putting additional strain on two already crowded courtrooms. Please oppose SB 238. Respectfully, Dale Bickell on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

It is also noteworthy that the statute setting the fee for civil cases in Justice Court has not been raised since 1989. Please oppose SB 238. Fred VanValkenburg:
ReplyDeleteThe changes only impact the civil jurisdiction of the Justice Court, which doesn't impact county attorneys.
