Missoula County opposes House Bill 534 - Require proof of citizenship to receive state services, before the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow morning. One of the services HB 534 bill prohibits is provision of Medicaid health care services to illegal aliens. Denying basic medical services, such as immunizations to children and prenatal care to pregnant women, poses a public health threat and financial burden to taxpayers and private health care entities. These children and their mothers will inevitably end up in our local hospitals' emergency departments with high cost conditions that could have been prevented.
