The bill provides immunity for county governments "from civil liability for personal injury or property damage resulting from the acts or omissions of a volunteer acting within the course and scope of the volunteer's duties." This immunity is a good thing for counties, which utilize the services of volunteers in many different capacities, such as reserve deputies and county fair judges and superintendents.
Missoula County supports House Bill 459 - provide volunteer exemption of liability to county government, before the House Local Government Committee tomorrow afternoon. HB 459 provides immunity for county governments from civil liability and ensures counties can continue to utilize the services of volunteers in many difference capacities from reserve deputies to county fair judges and superintendents.
