Message sent to Missoula Senators: Missoula County opposes Senate Bill 317 - Generally revise the Montana Environmental Policy Act, before the Senate Natural Resources Committee this afternoon. SB 317 effectively alters the purpose of MEPA to protect environmental quality and substitutes job promotion and economic growth at the expense of job growth dependent on environmental quality. It also transforms MEPA into an information gathering tool with no ability for agencies to condition permits while concurrently prohibiting the review of the best and most recent scientific research in the appeal process if that information was not gathered during the initial review.
